Painting a Picture out of Words:
An Essay On Rachel Carson's Style in Her Essay "The Marginal World".
An author’s style is unique. Like the features on somebody's face, no author has the same exact style as another. There will be similarities and likenesses. An author’s style is usually what is either appealing or unappealing to the reader.
TS)Rachel Carson, in her essay "The Marginal World", uses very distinct descriptions. SD) Her crisp descriptions make a clear vision in your head. CM) She captures the liveliness of the ocean in her words.CM) She does such an amazing job of describing the scenery it almost feels as if you are there. SD)Her descriptions make you think about the ocean differently. CM) She makes you think about the ocean and shore in a way you would have never had thought about it before.CM) Its almost as if she describes it as a person. SD) Her descriptions not only make me feel like I’m at the beach, but it also reminds me of times I’ve spent at the beach. CM) It’s reminds me of the salty air that stealthily breezes through my hair, and the waves that crash down heavily on my head. CM) She reminds about the sand sliding between my toes, and all the seagulls I have chased away.CS) Her descriptions paint a picture that's detailed and colorful and not one thing out of place.
TS) In this essay and many of my other essays I noticed that I tend to use adjectives. SD) In my writing the more adjectives the better.CM) Adjectives juice up each sentence and make it more interesting. CM) They also help you understand and visualize the author’s message. SD) Every-time I use an adjective I think of a way to make it better. CM) I simply look at similar words and I try and see which ones could add a little flavor to my essay. CM) Although it is a little more time and effort I find it worth the time. SD) Maybe a reason why I use adjectives a lot is because I enjoy when another author uses adjectives. CM) This year we are starting to read and write more difficult essays.CM) I had no trouble understanding Carson's essay, and my goal is that I make my essays easy to understand also. CM) Like Carson I do this by using adjectives. CS) Carson's and my style are similar, we both use allot of adjectives and description.
When thinking about what is most important in an essay, one of the many things that pops into my mind is the authors style needs to show. Another important thing to keep in mind, is make sure your adjectives fit in the essay. Remember to describe what you are talking about as much as possible. And always remember your style is what makes the essay unique.
